Medieval mayhem hits Oxford…
27th May 2025
Get ready, Oxford – on Tuesday 10th June, the city centre will echo with the clash of swords and the roar of battle as medieval knights storm the streets in a dramatic live-action stunt.
In an epic clash of steel and comedy, more than 40 costumed performers will march from Oxford Castle Prison, bringing the Middle Ages to life with sword fights, street theatre, and laugh-out-loud moments inspired by Horrible Histories and Monty Python. The action will unfold across iconic landmarks like Broad Street and the Radcliffe Camera, transforming Oxford into a living medieval stage.
This citywide spectacle is more than just entertainment – it marks the grand launch of Knight School, Oxford Castle Prison’s popular summer holiday event for families.
Knight School is the ultimate experience for primary-age children who want to walk (and fight) in the footsteps of knights. Throughout the summer holidays, young visitors can:
- Learn safe sword skills from trained instructors
- Try on armour and discover the secrets of medieval combat
- Explore real castle grounds and uncover legendary tales
- Take home a personalised certificate of knighthood
This unique partnership with City of Oxford College, and Banbury and Bicester College brings together emerging talent in performance and special effects make-up to create a memorable spectacle – and a perfect reason to book your family’s place at Knight School.
So, whether you catch the battle in the streets or are looking for a top-rated kids’ activity in Oxford this summer, don’t miss this one-of-a-kind opportunity.
